At one time, the Y-wing starfighter was the most common ship in service with the Rebel Alliance. Despite being slower and less maneuverable than most other starfighters in general use, this ship has a very distinguished record with its origins in the very beginning of the Rebellion. Many Y-wings are even still in service throughout the galaxy, despite their advanced age. Powerful deflector shields, and armor plating worthy of a small capital ship make the Y-wing far tougher than it looks, giving it a serious edge against lightly armored Imperial fighters. Its heavy weapon capacity also make it a very effective anti-ship fighter.
