Though this unique Podracer is a marvel of engineering, the true marvel is its pilot and builder, the young human Anakin Skywalker. Displaying a phenomenal understanding of engineering, the young prodigy not only salvaged a pair of junked racing engines, but developed an entirely new fuel distribution system. The young genius's innovations kept the weight of the racer down, and boosted its speed on a straightaway to more than three-quarters the speed of sound. The light racer suffered a serious disadvantage against its heavier competitors in the brutal fender to fender racing of the canyon section of the Boonta Eve Classic, but utterly dominated in the open steppes.

After his disastrous showing against a human child during the Boonta Eve Classic, much was made of the many illegal modifications carried by Sebulba's Podracer. The Dug had previously been protected from scrutiny by his long list of victories and a liberal application of money from the local Hutt organization. Unfortunately for Sebulba, it was only a matter of time before his cheating ways lost him a race, and many of his records were expunged due to his use of overweight engines, illegal weaponry, and outright assault on fellow racers. Even so, Sebulba was a skilled racer, and he soon made a reputation for himself again using the very Podracer that had defeated him.

Originally built to serve as cargo ships for the vast trading empire of the Trade Federation, these immense vessels were secretly repurposed to serve as ships of the line. Though their armamentand tactical capabilities leave much to be desired, these ships are formidable simply through sheer size. Crewed almost exclusively by droids and composed mostly of empty space, they can take a phenomenal amount of damage and still continue fighting. Though vulnerable to large numbers of small, fast fighters, a single Trade Federation battleship can carry an entire planetary invasion force, including as many as 1,500 droid starfighters.
