Nicknamed "Dutch" by his fellow pilots, Jon Vander established his skill as a pilot for the Rebellion early on. He quickly proved his talent for piloting heavy fighter craft, and was soon made leader of Specter Squadron. During the buildup of forces at Yavin prior to the battle with the first Death Star, he was placed in command of Gold Squadron. He was killed during his trench run on the Death Star by a shot from Darth Vader's TIE Advanced x1.
