Being released in 1997, this was one of the later Transforming Action Sets, but I don't feel that it suffered because of this. The Royal Guard was seen only on the Death Star II, so it is appropriate that his head opens to reveal several scenes there.
The topmost scene is the final duel between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, and it takes place in front of the Emperor. The Emperor's throne faces the viewport where he watches the battle in space, and then it rotates as it slides out so he can witness the battle between father and son. Below this scene is a hangar with an Imperial shuttle that can be raised and lowered, and the front of the head contains a spinning replica of the power core of the Death Star that "explodes" when you press a button. The Imperial shuttle is one of my favorite things about this set. It's wings can deploy from the folded position to the lowered flight position for extra play value.
All of the action features in this set lead me to believe that Galoob learned how to make their playsets more fun as they went along. I love how the spinning power core splits open to simulate the explosion after the assault on the Death Star, and the rotating throne adds a nice touch. This is easily one of my favorite sets in this line.
