The Han Solo Trilogy 1: The Paradise Snare (Pages 40-52)
Cover Artist: Drew Struzan
Han Solo regularly wondered about whether or not he had a last name and once mentioned to Dewlanna that if anyone knew his name, it was Garris Shrike. Dewlanna learned to play Sabacc, and one night when playing against Shrike, he got really drunk and she manipulated him into revealing Han's last name. Before he could reveal anything else of Han's history though, he became suspicious of her motives and she had to play it cool. But young Han now knew his last name, and liked the sound of it. Some time later Han snuck away to research his family and learned that there were honorable people in his ancestry as well as not so honorable. He also learned that there were living relatives in Tiion Sal-Solo and her son Thrackan. The next chance he gets, Han abandons Shrike's crew to look up his family and is shocked by his resemblance to Thrackan. Thrackan takes him to his mother who freaks out about how "they are both dead" and Thrackan gets angry with Han. Thrackan accepts Han into his home but is abusive towards him, both physically and mentally until Han has had enough and overpowers Thrackan. Thrackan finally tells him what he knows, how his grandparents Denn and Tira Gama Solo were separated in a raider attack on Tralus on the night that Tiion and her twin brother were born. Each parent took a child and fled, and Denn and the boy were never seen again. Thrackan suspects that he and Han must be cousins, and when Han lets his guard down Thrackan overpowers and imprisons him. Several days later, Thrackan tells Han he has a surprise for him and opens the door to admit Garris and his brother, who take him back to their ship and beat him for running away.
