Maze Run
David J. Williams & Mark S. Williams
Maze Run
Han Solo and Chewbacca have taken a job running supplies to a rogue energy-farm in the Rishi Maze. They've barely entered the Maze when the radiation overpowers their shielding and Han has to pilot from the engineering station. About twenty minutes into the run, they come to a clear spot and find the remnants of an unknown vessel floating in the void. They are attacked by drones from the wreck, and through a bit of clever work they destroy all the drones, just in time to pick up the beacon they were looking for. After verifying their identity, they prepare for docking when they find an odd energy surge coming from a crate in the cargo hold. Opening the crate, Han finds a baradium warhead of sufficient strength to crack a small moon. Realizing that they were part of a plan to destroy a rebel cell, they attempt to jettison the bomb and find that the outer hatch won't open. Realizing that there's only one way to save the ship, Han goes puts on his spacesuit and goes to open the hatch from the outside. He manages it while taking some damage that causes himself to fall off the ship and toward the black hole. As he's floating away, he sees the bomb explode and smiles with relief that at least Chewie escaped when Chewie maneuvers back and rescues him from the jaws of death. They deliver the rest of the cargo and decide to go have a chat with the guy who set them up in the first place.
