The Tenebrous Way
Matthew Stover
The Tenebrous Way
As Darth Tenebrous lays dying at the hands of his apprentice, he reflects on his actions that ultimately led him to this point. When he was still an apprentice, he had used his immense Bith intellect combined with the Force and had calculated the future. His calculations showed the rise of a shadow that covered the galaxy, as well as the rise of the "One Sith". He calculated this to mean that one Sith Lord of immense power would rise to rule the galaxy forever, but he knew that this would not be him. Using prophecies of the Chosen One, a being born of pure Force, he determined that he could be present at the creation of this being, and then could supplant his own consciousness in it's place, thereby becoming the Chosen One. with this plan in hand, he carefully selected his apprentice as the one being who could be capable of this creation, and very carefully groomed Plagueis towards the path. In the meantime, he created a retrovirus that could infect midi-chlorians, and used it on himself to create what he called maxi-chlorians, that would transfer themselves to his apprentices body on his own death, carrying his consciousness with them. All went according to plan, the maxi-chlorians carrying his consciousness across to Plagueis, where Tenebrous gained access to all of Plagueis' Force powers, including his power of foresight. Looking into the future, Tenebrous discovered that Plagueis would die before he could complete what he had been guided towards, and the Chosen One was never created. Realizing that the retro-virus he created would rob Plagueis of his foresight, ensuring that Tenebrous' doom was sealed, he used the Force to pull his maxi-chlorians out of Plagueis, trying to think of a solution. Realizing that his plan had failed, he tried to reach out to his apprentice and discovered that there was nothing around him except the ancient mummified remains of a Bith. As he realized the extent of his failure and wanted to scream with horror at his fate, he began to relive the events of his death yet again.
