With the spice Sansanna being heavily restricted, Han decides to travel to Ventooine to see if he can get a cargo of it there. When he begins asking for it though, he finds himself being chased by the locals who accuse him of being a lover of the Satab. He flees the crowd and attempts to hijack the cart of the Satab's ward, Chrysalla, and foils an assassination attempt in the process. Taken to the palace, the Satab decides that Han would be a worthy successor to the Shadeshine and proceeds to test him. The Shadeshine is a stone that possess mystical qualities, allowing the wearer to perform amazing feats, but it also kill its wearer within a year. In a ceremony where the Shadeshine is to be handed over to the next Satab, Chrysalla steps in and disrupts the proceedings because she doesn't want Han to suffer the same fate as all the Satabs. In the ensuing fight, Chrysalla takes the Shadeshine for herself and the current Satab is killed. Chrysalla then gives up the Shadeshine and enters suspended animation like most of the previous Satabs. Han records his experience for the local religious leaders and destroys the Shadeshine as he leaves for his next adventure.
