While piloting the Millennium Falcon through space, Luke flashes back to before Biggs Darklighter enters the Academy. He is on the verge of turning his back on his dreams of leaving Tatooine, and his friends are having a party to honor Biggs for going to the Academy. As part of the festivities, they race skyhoppers through Beggar's Canyon, and during the celebration afterwards, a nearly dead member of the Militia crashes in their midst. He explains that the Tusken Raiders have obtained a cache of weapons and are mounting a major offensive against the humans. Biggs and Luke decide to warn the farmers, but on their way to their skyhoppers, Biggs is injured by a Tusken shot. Luke races against time to save his friend and warn the farmers, reaching deep within himself to fly through an area no one had ever survived flying through. Crisis averted, he realizes that he will never be happy as a moisture farmer.
