The Han Solo Trilogy 2: The Hutt Gambit (Pages 78-161)
Cover Artist: Drew Struzan
Five months after he came to Nar Shaddaa, Han Solo hasn't yet begun working for the Hutt's. He has been getting as much experience as possible in the smuggling business, because he knows how hard it is to please a Hutt. After his first successful Kessel Run, he decides he's ready to meet with Jiliac the Hutt and is successful in impressing him. Over the next few months, Han pilots for the Hutts and becomes a very valuable pilot for them, even saving the life of Jabba the Hutt in an apparent pirate attack. Eventually Han has to reveal his history on Ylesia to his new employers, who decide to keep using him because they are from a rival crime syndicate to the Ylesia operation. Before long, The bounty on Han Solo becomes high enough to interest Boba Fett, who ambushes Han after he leaves his new girlfriends apartment. Fett nearly gets away with him, and is only stopped when Lando Calrissian gets the drop on him. They manage to get away from Fett, and Lando explains that he won a starship in a game of Sabacc and needs to learn how to pilot it. Han teaches him how to fly the Millennium Falcon and they both disappear in different directions to evade Fett. Han joins his current girlfriend, the illusionist Xaverri, and they travel across the galaxy, and Lando heads to the Oseon system.

This fun story tells us how Han Solo and Chewbacca first began working together as smugglers. We also meet many of their acquaintances who will show up later in the movies as well as Expanded Universe sources. We also see how Han became such a favored pilot for Jabba the Hutt.

It's nice to see Han at his lowest and as he's learning his trade because it makes him seem more human, plus we see how far he actually goes to make it to the top.
