The Han Solo Trilogy 2: The Hutt Gambit (Pages 1-77)
Cover Artist: Drew Struzan
Five years after the events of The Han Solo Trilogy 1: The Paradise Snare, Han Solo has been drummed out of the Imperial Navy for standing up to a superior officer and freeing a Wookiee slave. The Empire has blacklisted him as a pilot and no one will hire him, so he spends his time gambling and drinking and trying to chase his new "friend" Chewbacca away. After Chewie stops an angry Barabel female from tearing him apart, he decides to go to Nar Shaddaa and start smuggling for the Hutts.

This fun story tells us how Han Solo and Chewbacca first began working together as smugglers. We also meet many of their acquaintances who will show up later in the movies as well as Expanded Universe sources. We also see how Han became such a favored pilot for Jabba the Hutt.

It's nice to see Han at his lowest and as he's learning his trade because it makes him seem more human, plus we see how far he actually goes to make it to the top.
