The Republic forces have been fighting the Morgukai clones on Saleucami for nearly five months now, with little progress being made. Master Oppo Rancisis predicts that a chance will come to strike at the shield generator from under the ground, and when that chance arrives, Master Quinlan Vos and Sian Jeisel enter the tunnels and destroy the generator. Unfortunately, the separatist base still has a small backup generator and a big gun to prevent orbital bombardment. At this point, Count Dooku decides that it's time to break Vos' cover and demands to know the Republic plans. Vos can't give the plans because Rancisis doesn't share the plans, so he is instructed to kill Master Tholme before he can cause more damage to their base. Vos finds and confronts Tholme, and before he can kill him, Tholme falls off a ledge to the lava below. The separatists launch a diversionary attack to their Anzati allies and Sora Bulq can infiltrate the Republic base and kill Oppo Rancisis. With Rancisis dead, Vos assumes leadership of the Republic forces and launches a final assault against the base. He and Aayla Secura plant charges that will remove the shield, and he goes to confront Sora Bulq, who he believes to be the second Sith. During his meeting with the Dark Jedi, Master Tholme reappears and Vos is asked to kill Khaleen Hentz to prove his loyalty. Vos decides that he will be a Jedi and kills Tol Skorr, and battles Sora Bulq. While fighting Bulq, he is also fighting the Dark Side within himself and it appears he is going to lose until Aayla Secura and Tholme provide him with help. He defeats his inner Dark Side and this helps him defeat Bulq. They make their escape as the Republic bombards the base to oblivion.
