Several months before the Battle of Yavin, Biggs Darklighter leaves Tatooine to join the Imperial Academy. He excels at his training, but he has doubts about the rightness of the cause he has joined. He is assigned to the Rand Ecliptic with several other people who feel, like he does, that the Empire might be wrong. They stage a mutiny and join the Rebel Alliance based off of Yavin IV, where Biggs will meet up with a friend he never expected to see again.

This is an emotional story about the heroes of the Rebellion that didn't make it back from the Battle of Yavin. We see their relationships with each other and those people around them, as well as their motivations and reasonings behind joining the Rebel Alliance.
