This short story, found in Star Wars Insider #83, takes place between Medstar I: Battle Surgeons and Medstar II: Jedi Healer. RMSU-7 has just been relocated, and is getting operations underway again. Jos Vondar is trying to cope with the loss of his best friend when he is asked to perform a tricky surgery on the Zabrak responsible for Zan Vant's death. He needs to come to terms with the person he is before he does something he'll regret.
This story helps to tie the events of Medstar I: Battle Surgeons and Medstar II: Jedi Healer together as well as provide added depth to some of the characters introduced in the novels. I thought it was well done.
