Medstar I: Battle Surgeons
Michael Reaves, Steve Perry
Medstar I: Battle Surgeons
Cover Artist: David Seeley
On the remote world of Drongar, right on the front lines of the war between the Confederacy and the Republic, lies a military medical unit. Padawan Barriss Offee has been sent to investigate the disappearance of quantities of bota, a miracle herb which is the primary reason for the conflict on this planet. At the same time, she assists in the healing of injured clone troopers on this planet.

This story reminds me a lot of the American television series M*A*S*H, which tells the story of doctors conscripted to serve on the front lines in the Korean war, and how they cope with the world around them. In this book, one doctor retreats to his incredible musical talent to cope with the realities of the war, and one covers his feelings with sarcasm. In addition, a character that Michael Reaves created in Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter makes an appearance about halfway through the book and becomes an important character in the story.
