This story is told in a series of flashbacks on the part of several people who were involved in the conflict. While in the process of helping Aayla Secura recover her memories the opportunity arises to to recount the events of a brutal conflict that occurred some 14 years before. We discover in this story some of the things that set Jedi apart from most other people, and we learn much more of the character of Plo Koon and his motivations.
This book had a distinct feeling to me of sitting around a campfire telling old war stories to each other. It was interesting, but in no way vital to the progression of any major storylines.
