In the midst of their constant struggle with the Duloks, the Ewoks of Bright Tree Village witness a massive explosion in the distance. Shortly afterwards, a Dulok named Agluk finds his way to the Ewok village, bringing tales of the "Skull Ones" arriving, destroying his village and enslaving his people. Worse yet, they have apparently awoken the legendary Griagh. Chief Chirpa imprisons Agluk until he can decide what to do with him, but that night Wicket, Kneesaa and Paploo free him in order to learn the truth. They are interrupted by Logray, who captures Paploo while the rest flee into the forest. Eventually they encounter Teebo and Latara who agree to accompany them to find out the truth. When they arrive at the location of the Dulok village, what they see instead is the beginning of an Imperial base and enslaved Duloks. Back at the village, Chief Chirpa is enraged that Kneesaa has been taken by a Dulok, and calls for his scouts to be organized. Logray takes Paploo and the two go to visit the exiled nightsister Charal to gain knowledge. She confirms the existence of the Empire, but believes the Griagh is nothing more than an Ewok legend. She then tries to steal the Sunstar from Logray but is foiled when Paploo activates her raven talisman and turns her into a raven. In the tunnels under the Imperial base, Kneesaa is handed a light that contains a dying Wistie named Zrani so they can see to find their way through the tunnels. When Agluk goes to sleep, they steal the key to set Zrani free, which awakens Agluk. In a rage, he chases Wicket down a tunnel where he is caught by the Griagh and torn apart. The Ewoks flee from the Griagh, led out of the tunnels by Zrani and barely surviving. Elsewhere, Logray and Paploo are caught by the stormtroopers who are also holding the Duloks prisoner. Just then, they are set on by Wicket and his group who free the imprisoned Duloks just as the Griagh bursts from the ground. The Ewoks, Duloks and remaining troopers hold the creature at bay while Logray moves to a ridge where he can charge the Sunstar as much as possible. Throwing it at the creature, Zrani grabs it and uses her remaining lifeforce to supercharge the Sunstar causing it to explode as it enters the monsters mouth, killing the Griagh. The remaining troopers make a run for it and are stopped by the arrival of Chief Chirpa and his scouts. Later at the village, they have a ceremony celebrating the end of the Griagh and the scattering of the Duloks, as well as honoring the memory of Zrani, who made the ultimate sacrifice to save them.
