An alien named Bezzem sits down to have a drink with an old man named Tem Chesko, and Chesko tells him that he just finished a 71 year cargo trip from Cirus II. In response to Bezzem's puzzlement, Chesko explains that he left home on a 2 week trip, but he was hit by an asteroid that knocked out his hyperdrive and comlink, leaving him stranded 60 years from the nearest inhabited planet. After 8 years of sinking into madness, he finds a feminine service droid who he names Millie. As time passes and he grows closer to Millie, he can't forget his old girlfriend and Millie nearly short circuits herself for jealousy. Tem talks her out of it, and she continues to care for him as he grows old and weak. Eventually, his body begins to fail him and he asks her to kill him, giving her his laser knife. Bezzem asks him how he can be here, and where Millie went, and Tem shows him his chest, which now contains Millie's powerplant that she transplanted into him.
