On Arbra, Luke Skywalker, Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca have been dispatched to meet with a black market dealer named Ferret while the Rebels endeavour to hide their fleet from prying eyes. Using experimental technology, they create a heat shield around the fleet and drop it into the chromasphere of the star. Everything goes well, but as they are leaving R2-D2 and C-3PO detect an anomaly that leaves them trapped while the shuttle carrying the rebels leaves. R2 discovers that a malfunction in one of the components of the shield will result in the fleet rising into the corona without the benefit of the added heat shields, resulting in the destruction of the fleet. R2 comes up with a novel idea of connecting the malfunctioning component to one of the cruisers, providing it with sufficient power to last until the crews can return to repair the malfunction. They succeed with very little time to spare, saving the fleet.
