When the Rebel Alliance learns of the existence of a new Imperial superweapon named the Tarkin, they dispatch the only rebels who have ever been on a superweapon and survived, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, C-3PO and R2-D2. They travel to Hockaleg in the Patriim system where they infiltrate a work crew and board the Tarkin. With three separate objectives, they split up, Chewie and the droids to disable the tractor beam, Leia to commandeer an escape pod and Luke to destroy the central reactor with a proton grenade. Chewie's mission is a success, but Leia is ambushed and forced to consider other escape options. Darth Vader attempts to intercept Luke and turn him to the Dark Side, but is prevented when a group of Imperial officers open an airlock behind him. Luke escapes, but not without losing the proton grenade to the vacuum of space. The infiltrators retreat to a docking bay where they steal a ship to effect their getaway, but they are followed by a couple of TIE Fighters. They rendezvous with Lando Calrissian in the Millennium Falcon who followed them in order to prove his loyalty and manage to fight off not only the first wave of TIE Fighters, but Darth Vader in his ship as well. As they try to escape they are targeted by the Tarkin's superlaser, but as they Tarkin fires it destroys itself. Leia explains that when she retreated from the storm troopers, she found herself in the activating mechanism for the superlaser. Remembering the schematics of the original Death Star, she switched a few wires and reversed the polarity of the cannon, causing it to target itself when fired. The heroes return to base to continue their search for Han Solo.
