Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca are recalled from their mission to retrieve Han Solo after Luke Skywalker and his team contract a mysterious illness while on a recon mission. They came across a derelict Star Destroyer whose entire crew had been killed by something that emanated from a red gem that was being transported on the ship. Leia prevails on Chewie to relate an adventure that he and Han had been involved with where they had been tracking a pair of red gems. Several years before, after completing a mission for the Rebellion, Han and Chewie were laying low when they were abducted by a crew who needed mercenaries to go to the Red Nebula to retrieve a lost treasure. Arriving in the Red Nebula, the mercenaries were tasked to find and steal two red gems. Han and Chewie found them, and while Chewie distracted the guard, Han stole them. He returned to the cruiser but was left behind because he tampered with the restraints he wore. Watching the ship from a hidden bunker he and Chewie watched as it flew directly into the sun, destroying everyone aboard. Revealing to the locals that he had switched out the gems, he returned the gems and the locals provided him with a ship to speed him on his way. As Chewie finishes relating this story, they are interrupted and informed that Luke is losing his struggle with the mysterious illness. In a desperate gamble, Leia, Lando and Chewie decide to travel to the Red Nebula to find a cure, but on the way they find a derelict House of Tagge cruiser. Boarding the ship, they learn that the same mysterious illness has affected this ship as well except for a few who locked themselves away including Domina Tagge who swore revenge on Darth Vader and Luke for the death of her brother. They attacked the planet and stole the gems, but before they could enact their plan they were apprehended by an Imperial Star Destroyer and one of the gems was taken. With the gems seperated, the illness began to spread, causing all victims to take the appearance of death. They reunite the two gems, and Luke makes a full and immediate recovery, allowing them to continue the search for Han.
