On Yavin IV, the rebels are losing a war through attrition. Waves of TIE fighters continue to attack their base, and while the rebels are unable to get replacement fighters for their losses, the TIE numbers never seem to diminish. Luke and Leia sell the yacht they took from the Wheel to try and throw Darth Vader off their trail, and decide to follow a House of Tagge mining explorer through the Imperial blockade in their second-hand gunship. Upon arriving in the Yavin system, they witness a storm rise up on the gas giant of Yavin and then a group of TIE fighters fly down into the atmosphere. As Luke and Leia attempt to go to the Rebel base, the have to fight off a wave of sentry TIEs, and while they are successful they take heavy damage before they are rescued by Rebel forces. After they are successfully down, Luke takes R2-D2 to go retrieve a damaged TIE in the hopes that it will have something that allows the rebels to attack the Imperial facility. They find what they need, but R2-D2 is severely damaged by the TIE's pilot, who survived the crash. Luke then volunteers to fly a TIE loaded with proton charges into the gas giant to find the Imperial facility. He finds a giant turbine facility in the atmosphere with the House of Tagge ship docked to it, which explains why they were able to create storms on demand to allow ships through. He unloads all his proton charges into the engines of the turbine facility, destroying it, and then uses the Force to find his way out to space. Unknown to him though, the House of Tagge ship has followed him out and before it flees, Baron Tagge swears revenge on Luke.
