Rogue Squadron has been sent to the Malrev System to rescue a stranded starliner crewed by Bothans. They find the cruiser on the fourth planet of the system, where they are promptly attacked by a large number of TIE Fighter's flown by unskilled pilots. During the firefight, Wedge Antilles is shot down, and dragged away from his X-wing my a mysterious figure. After they set down by the missing starliner, they start noticing all sorts of odd events, such as the local semi-intelligent wildlife attacking them in a coordinated manner using Imperial hardware. They soon discover that the planet is home to a small Sith temple where an abandoned Imperial technician is trying his best to control everything around him. He holds Wedge as a prisoner, but as soon as another attack comes he loses control and Wedge is able to escape. Unfortunately, Dllr Nep has not been able to resist the call of the temple and arrives to help. As the next battle begins, Herian I'ngre manages to mentally contact Dllr and persuade him to break the control of the temple, and the Bothan captain Girov makes his way to the temple with the intention of claiming it's power for himself. With Girov in control, the forces arrayed against Rogue Squadron and the Bothans become cohesive and succesful. Just when it appears that Girov is going to win, Herian manages to crash her X-wing into the temple, destroying it and ending the attack. The Rebel forces are able to leave the planet, but not without the loss of two pilots.
