In this story we are introduced to Lt. Janek Sunber, who will become a recurring character in the Star Wars comics. Sunber is an officer in the Imperial Army who is an intelligent and honorable man. He will stand by his troops to the end, and it looks like they might indeed meet their end in this story. We see that while some imperial officers have arrogance to spare, we are also given an example of open-minded leadership in the case of the General leading this campaign.

This story actually works out to be a look into the psychological profiles of several different types of people. We have the intelligent, benevolent senior officer, the eager young junior officer, and the arrogant, backbiting middle management. It makes you think: in a crisis, what kind of person am I? Will a serious situation bring out the best, or the worst in me?
