Six months after Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Droma are declared Dark Lords of the Sith, while Exar Kun is attempting to recruit new Jedi to his cause, the Mandalorian clans are attacking the Empress Teta system, thinking they sense an easy victory. Mandalore challenges Ulic Qel-Droma to a duel to decide the fate of the system, with leadership of the Mandalorians as the prize. Ulic wins the duel, but rather than killing Mandalore, he offers him the chance to rule underneath him while they embark on a war of conquest. On Ossus, Nomi Sunrider is receiving further education in Jedi Battle Meditation, and learns of a technique to blind an enemy to the Force, possibly permanently. Later, Kun confronts Odan-Urr and steals a Sith holocron from him, then killing him, later telling his new followers that Odan-Urr proclaimed him a Jedi Master before giving him the holocron and dying. Ulic leads a series of attacks on shipyards in order to leave Coruscant open for an attack. His plan is successful, and he almost carries out his objectives when Aleema betrays him, convincing Mandalore that he is dead, they pull back and retreat, leaving Ulic a prisoner of the Jedi. On Yavin IV, Exar Kun destroys the Sith holocron, allowing its energies to possess the 20 Jedi Knights that followed him to learn more. As Ulic goes on trial, Kun sends his new recruits to kill their masters but as they leave, Mandalore arrives, asking Kun's help to free Ulic. They go to Coruscant where they free Ulic and escape, but not before Kun demonstrates to the Senate the power he controls, duels his old master Vodo-Siosk Baas and kills him. Back on Yavin IV, Ulic is informed of Aleema's treachery before being reunited with her, but can't stop thinking of Nomi Sunrider. Later, as the Jedi gather on Ossus, Aleema is sent with Naga Sadow's war cruiser to destroy the Kemplex Nine space station near the Cron cluster. When several Jedi Knights arrive too late, they follow the war cruiser into the heart of the ten stars of the Cron cluster, where Aleema uses the power of the ship to rip out the core of a star to obliterate the Jedi. She then realizes that her betrayal is known as the star goes supernova, creating a chain reaction that obliterates the cluster, sending a blast towards Ossus with the intent of chasing away the Jedi so Kun's forces can strip the planet of artifacts. As they invade, Master Ood Bnar undergoes a transformation to protect some of the Jedi artifacts, thwarting Kun, while Ulic faces his brother Cay. In a rage, Ulic kills Cay and realizes what he has become as Nomi, in a fit of rage, uses her new skills to block Ulic from the Force permanently. Having lost everything that was important to him, Ulic agrees to lead the Jedi to Yavin IV, where they can put a stop to Kun for good. The Jedi work to gether to create a wall of light to cleanse the moon as Kun gathers his Massassi, using their life force to release his spirit to roam the cosmos, but he is defeated by the combined might of the Jedi. Two years later, Ulic arrives at the moon, looking for some way to restore his Force sensitivity, but sensing nothing, he leaves while Exar Kun, trapped in the darkness alone, screams for him to answer.
