Barrison Draay has won a great battle on Toprawa, and Haazen is helping dig through the bodies to find Jedi to burn on the Pyre and burying the rest, when he encounters the Nautolan smuggler Dossa, who is now working for Exar Kun's forces. Understanding that he chafes under his present position, she asks him what he wants and he responds that he wants everything that Barrison has, and she tells him how to get it. He then tells Barrison that he saw Dossa and leads them into a trap, an explosion that goes off before he can escape the blast zone. When he awakens, he finds that a Massassi had replaced his missing limbs with Sith artifacts, including one called the Yoke of Seeming, which allows himself and his intentions to be clouded from Jedi predictions of the future. They tell him that other Sith artifacts may unlock other abilities in his new body and they will help him find them, but he kills them, telling them that he will be much more than Jedi or Sith. He then goes and finds Krynda Draay, telling her of the loss of her husband, and manipulating her into creating the Jedi Covenant.
