On Coruscant, the Jedi seers of the Covenant have a vision of Taris and the future. They see the Rakghoul plague spreading off world with Zayne Carrick and three others at the center of it. In the vision, they see an ancient Sith artifact, the Muur Talisman and know that they must stop what is going to happen. Unable to go themselves, Lucien tasks one of his Jedi Shadows to go in their place. On Taris, the constable is on the run from the Rakghouls when she encounters a Jedi. She explains how she got her family off planet, but was unable to escape herself. She has been on the run for a while now, but was bitten in her last encounter with the Rakghouls. The Jedi explains that she will turn into one, it is inevitable. As the constable turns, the Jedi kills her and is surprised when Zayne Carrick and Gryph run by her. She introduces herself as Celeste Morne, and explains that she wants to take them in, but has a very specific mission. Having nothing else to do, they follow her until an explosion and collapse sends them far into the undercity where they come across Demagol's assistant Pulsipher, who has found the Muur Talisman. The Jedi and Gryph stow away on Pulsipher's ship as it flies to Jebble, where Pulsipher wants to unlock the secrets of the Talisman. They manage to infiltrate the Mandalorian base and are caught, but as they are about to be taken into custody the Mandalorians begin turning into Rakghouls, but these ones are smarter and organized. As the Jedi look out over the field from their vantage point, they realize that Jebble is a staging area and the Rakghoul plague will be spread through the Republic from here unless they can do something. From the communications center, Celeste sends a warning to Lucien Draay who commands her to capture the Talisman and take it to a secure facility and to kill Zayne. Once she is finished, Zayne contacts the approaching Mandalorian forces to warn them away and Celeste finds herself unable to kill him because too much doesn't add up. As they look for Pulsipher, Zayne is captured by Rakghouls, who take him where he wants to be. Pulsipher tries to get Zayne to tell him the secrets, but the Talisman leaves him and tries to take over Zayne until Celeste gets in the way and it takes her instead as Gryph arrives to warn them. As she is possessed by the Talisman, a change comes over her. Instead of acting like a Jedi, she begins thinking only of conquest and war. Zayne appeals to her inner nature and it works temporarily. She realizes that she is under the influence of the spirit of Sith Lord Karness Muur, who created the Talisman. Zayne has an idea to protect her and the galaxy, and shows her another artifact that Pulsipher had obtained, the oubliette of Sith Lord Dreypa. Realizing that it was designed to hold Muur, she knows it will help with her, so she willing goes inside to be sealed until Zayne can take her to Odryn, where hopefully the Covenant researchers can help her. As soon as the oubliette is sealed, the Rakghouls go crazy, destroying everything around them and forcing Zayne and Gryph to climb to get away from them. At the last minute, their ship arrives and they are rescued, but when Zayne insists they turn around to get Celeste, Cassus Fett's forces arrive and destroy the surface of the world and everything living on it. Thinking Celeste is dead, Zayne resolves to finally end this all by exposing the Covenant.
