At the Sith academy on the world of Odacer-Faustin, the Sith Lord Darth Scabrous has found an ancient secret to eternal life. The only remaining ingredient is a sentient flower called the Murakami orchid, and Scabrous is expending whatever resources he has to retrieve one. On the planet Marfa, Hestizo Trace lives and works with the Jedi Agricultural Corps. She has a special affinity to plants, and has developed a bond with the orchid that is in her care. Before anyone really knows what is happening, a Whiphid bounty hunter named Tulkh assaults the facility to steal the flower, and when he learns that the flower will die if it is taken too far away from her, he decides to abduct her as well and turn them both over to Scabrous. Hestizo has a brother who is a Jedi, and as soon as he learns what happened to her he tracks them to the Sith academy. When Hestizo and the plant are introduced to Scabrous, he immediately throws the flower into a solution that is fed into the back of a failed Sith student, causing him to die, but death is not the end that it should be. His body rises again and begins attacking all the people nearby, spreading the infection. Before long, the entire academy is infected and Hestizo is captured. Scabrous' intent is to kill her and eat her heart, which he believes will give him the strength to overcome the Sickness flowing through him. Before he can remove her heart though, he is stopped by her brother who fights Scabrous at the cost of his own life. As the only survivors escape the planet, Hestizo is faced with one more challenge before she can finally be free. When faced with returning to her old life in the Agricultural Corps though, she decides to return to her Jedi training because that is what her brother would want ther to do.
