While the Army of Light and the Sith Brotherhood battle on Ruusan, three young people on Somov Rit are dreaming of the future. Tomcat idolizes the Jedi, his cousin Bug is not interested in their ideals, and Tomcat's other cousin Rain simply wants to be with her family. They are introduced to a Jedi recruiter named Torr Snapit, who agrees to take the boys because of their Force sensitivity. When he says that war is no place for ten year old Rain, he says that he will take her if she can show some ability with the Force. She appears to do so, but later on the ship, Bug asks why Tomcat passed her test for her, he explains that it's because she's blood and they couldn't leave her behind. As they reach Ruusan, they are attacked by Sith ships, and Rain falls out the side of the ship. After they land, Torr refuses to go look for her because she probably died from the fall. As they journey to meet up with the Army of Light, Tomcat begins to grow disillusioned with the Jedi, and eventually Torr sacrifices himself to save the boys. Tomcat retrieves Torr's lightsaber and they are attacked by the Sith, only to be saved by Kiel Charny and his forces and taken back to base. Elsewhere on the planet, Rain is being cared for by the indigenous life forms, the Bouncers, when Darth Bane convinces the Brotherhood to work together to devastate the planet with the Force. Before they can finish though, Lord Kaan and his followers decide to take the fight to the Jedi and kill them hand to hand. The attack is disrupted by Jedi Lord Valenthyne Farfalla who is then chased away by the anger of Lord Hoth. Charny is confronted by his ex-lover, the Sith Githany, and as they duel, Charny loses his hand. Before she can kill him, Tomcat walks up and claims that the Jedi don't use the Force like they should and kills Charny with his own lightsaber, before introducing himself as Darovit and leaving with Githany. Elsewhere, Rain realizes that she used the Force to save the Bouncer who was caring for her, but her happiness is tempered when the Bouncer tells her that Tomcat and Bug won't be Jedi, but she may become a strong Dark Jedi after everyone else dies. Back at the Jedi camp, Lord Hoth is gathering his forces for an assault on Kaan's caves and arming them. Bug approaches and, when questioned about his motives, he states that Tomcat was supposed to be a Jedi. Now that this won't happen, he feels a need to restore the balance, and Hoth gives him a lightsaber and welcomes him and he tells them his real name is Hardin. As the armies march to their destruction, Rain is taken to the Jedi by the Bouncer she befriended. Unfortunately, many Bouncers have gone insane from the devastation the Sith caused and the Jedi are killing them to protect their army. Her Bouncer friend is killed and in a rage she uses the Force to kill the Jedi around her, and then Bane finds her. While he question her on her motives, Githany and Darovit attempt to escape the radius of the Thought Bomb until they encounter Hardin. Darovit and Hardin duel while Githany leaves and the thought bomb is detonated, draining and destroying Hardin, but oddly leaving Darovit unharmed. He looks and finds the location of the bomb, and encounters his cousin with Bane. He takes a lightsaber to defend her and she destroys his hand, telling him her name is Zannah. Darovit goes on to wander the wilderness of Ruusan, while Bane takes Zannah as his apprentice.
