As the Yuuzhan Vong invasions rolls forward, Finn Galfridian learns that his fathers trusted advisor Dulac is actually a covert Yuuzhan Vong agent and decides that it is his responsibility to help his father. Nina and Kaye Galfridian fight off a small Vong attack force that is attacking a space station full of refugees. When the Republic troops propose to commandeer the vessel, the survivors disagree vehemently. They learn that in the Vong assault there were many people taken prisoner and transported to the surface and so they decide it is up to them to rescue them. On Yavin IV, Finn learns from the holocron that there is someone close to him that is not who they seem, and it is his destiny to go to Artorias and find his father. Taking Jacen and Jaina Solo with him, they arrive at the planet and are set upon by grutchins which helps their illusion of crashing into the ocean where they can find the Artorias resistance force. At Dibrook, Kaye leads an attack force of ex-prisoners against the Yuuzhan Vong emplacement that come's up against a force of their own shaped people. Back on Artorias, Dulac reveals himself to the king and they fight until Finn's droid ambushes Dulac. Before Dulac dies though, he poisons the king. Lying on his deathbed, he decides it's time to tell Finn a story about his mother. Seventeen years earlier, Nina was a slave who was brought to Artorias by her master. When King Caled had her set free, she turned on her captor and killed him barehanded. In the aftermath, she proclaimed her love for him and told him that he could accept his children with him. Back on Dibrook, Kaye gives the order to fire on the shaped prisoners to put them out of their misery while inside the Vong complex Tsalok learns the name of the Jedi he is hunting, Finn Galfridian. Caled finishes telling Finn how proud he is that he will be a Jedi and Finn reveals that for some unknown reason, he can sense the Yuuzhan Vong in the Force. Caled then records a message to his wife telling her that he knows she has secrets and that he knows how much she loves his children, but he wants her to reveal herself as a Yuuzhan Vong to them before it is too late. On Dibrook, the Yuuzhan Vong retreat with their yammosk and captive Jedi, leaving only the prisoners who are tortured before the eyes of their rescuers. In order to stop their suffering, Nina commands their captured ship to destroy the prisoners. With the death of his father, Finn decides to follow the guidance of the holocron he has and travel to Nar Shaddaa where a Force sensitive named Dray informs him that the Yuuzhan Vong are developing something that only Finn will be able to stop.
