A year after the Killiks have been settled in their new homes, the Jedi and the Galactic Alliance are trying to track down the source of intoxicants and contraband that seem to originate with the Dark Nest. As a show of good faith, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo decide to stay with Raynar Thul and the Killiks while the Jedi investigate the source of "Fizz", something that is destroying some of the Killiks on their new world. Cilghal discovers that the Fizz is actually a nanotech agent that is working to protect the planets from contaminants, but as Princess Leia and Saba Sebatyne are returning with this information they are captured by an Alliance blockade before they can return to the Killiks. Meanwhile, Luke and Han discover that the Dark Nest has a plan to eliminate the blockade so they can assault the galaxy, starting with the Chiss. They escape custody with the help of the smugglers Jae Juun and Tarfang, and track down the pirate base only to discover a massive assault force with a major ship devoted to each Killik nest, including the Dark Nest. They attempt to disable the Dark Nest ship, but are too late. The fleet assaults the blockade where Leia proves to the admiral that the Jedi are trustworthy, but too late to save the flagship. Luke and Han encounter Lomi Plo where Luke learns some important things about why Lomi can hide so well from him, and they are rescued. While this is happening, a Jedi strike force led by Jacen and Jaina Solo attacks a Chiss outpost, starting the war but hopefully saving the galaxy by forcing the Chiss to act before they are ready.
