Dark Nest I: The Joiner King
Cover Artist: Cliff Nielsen
When the survivors of the Myrkr mission disappear into the Unknown Regions, responding to a mysterious call that only they can hear, Luke Skywalker is concerned. When he is approached by a Chiss representative demanding that he reign in his Jedi, he decides to investigate. He discovers that the call came from UnuThul, who was once Raynar Thul, the missing member of the Myrkr mission. Raynar was abducted by two dark Jedi, but when their ship crashed he risked his life to save their lives. Nearly dead, he was healed by an insect race called the Killiks and was absorbed into their colony. Absorbing his values, the colony began to prosper and grow, and eventually came into conflict with the Chiss. Luke learns all this and then takes most of the Jedi back to the temple where they discover that the young Jedi have begun the process of joining the colony. While hunting, Saba Sebatyne encounters Welk, one of the dark Jedi who has has apparently joined the colony as well, and he nearly kills her. While returning Saba to the temple for healing, Princess Leia and Han Solo discover that Alema Rar has also joined the colony. At the temple, Cilghal performs tests that show that Alema is joined with a member of the hidden Gorog nest and the Jedi formulate a plan that will help them resolve the conflict. Traveling back to where the conflict is brewing, the Jedi Masters discover where the Gorog nest is hiding and fight their way to where Welk is. Many Gorog are killed and Welk is eventually defeated, but Alema and Lomi Plo escape before Raynar Thul is brought to understand that the secret Gorog nest is manipulating the Killiks toward a war. He agrees to let the Killiks be relocated to another world where they won't be in conflict with the Chiss anymore, but this is far from over.
