Four and a half months after the battle at Ebaq 9, Luke Skywalker and Princess depart on missions that could be crucial to the war effort. Leia takes Han Solo, Jaina Solo, Tahiri Veila and Jagged Fel and leaves to reopen communications with as many estranged New Republic Systems as possible. Their first stop is Galantos, a planet on the edge of Yevethan territory, where everything seems a little strange. When Leia is told that the people of Galantos aren't worried about the Yevetha anymore, Jaina takes a couple of pilots to scout N'zoth to learn why. Upon arriving in the system, they find that the Yevethan have been completely wiped out by the Yuuzhan Vong. The last surviving pilot chooses to self-destruct his craft in order to kill them rather than be rescued, and Jaina and her remaining pilot limp back to Galantos. Upon arrival, they have to help the remainder of the escort fight off a small Vong slave capturing expedition that was meant to take the population of Galantos away. In the aftermath, Leia and Han receive intelligence that suggests they visit Bakura next. Shortly before Leia left, Luke takes Mara Jade, Jacen Solo, Saba Sebatyne and Danni Quee to try and find Zonama Sekot in the hopes that it can end the Vong threat. Their first stop is Bastion where they find the Empire under heavy attack by a large Vong force. The Empire retreats to Yaga Minor where Jacen proposes that they draw the Vong to Borosk where they can fight them off, and a seriously injured Pellaeon agrees. At Borosk, the Empire manages to defeat the Vong and Jacen leads Saba Sebatyne and Danni Quee to rescue a large number of slaves from the Vong. Pellaeon decides to send a team with the Jedi on their search for Zonoma Sekot, and the expedition sets out for the Unknown Regions. On Coruscant, Nom Anor spends his time hiding from Shimrra's forces, but when the group of Shamed Ones he is hiding with are slaughtered, he decides that he won't sit still, and becomes the prophet of the Jedi Heresy spreading among the lower Vong castes.
