Slightly more than two months after the debacle at the Fondor shipyards, both Han Solo and Princess Leia are on Duro, administering different refugee settlements. Because Jacen is having a hard time determining his destiny with the Force, he is assisting his father on Duro, but neither of them know that Leia is overseeing a nearby settlement, and she is unaware of their presence. Meanwhile, Jaina is injured in a battle and is sent to recover with her father and brother because the military can't spare the med facilities for her. On Coruscant, Luke and Mara Jade Skywalker are approached by a Jedi who's apprentice went missing in the Duro system, so they decide to take Anakin and find out what is going on there. On Duro, Jacen and Jaina find a species of insect eating the materials of the shelter they are in, prompting an evacuation to the nearby settlement where Han and Leia are reunited and finally begin to patch things up. Jacen is sent up to one of the Duros orbital cities to find out why their supplies aren't reaching them, just as Luke, Mara and Anakin discover that the missing apprentice was killed by members of the Peace Brigade. Jaina rescues Jacen and they make it back to the surface of the planet in time for the Yuuzhan Vong forces to arrive and begin their assault. While Luke, Mara, and Anakin assist in the orbital fight, Han and Leia evacuate as many refugees as they can. Leia is captured and brought before Warmaster Tsavong Lah who causes her legs to be severely injured in sacrifice. Jacen arrives in the nick of time and decides that he must use the Force again. He causes great injury to the Warmaster, and he and Jaina escape with Leia after Han picks them up. With the action over at Duro, the Warmaster sends a broadcast to the New Republic claiming that the Vong aggressions will cease if all the Jedi are turned over to them, especially Jacen Solo.
