The Courtship Of Princess Leia

The Courtship Of Princess Leia
Cover Artist: Drew Struzan
After the defeat of Warlord Zsinj's forces, Han Solo made his way back to Coruscant to spend some time with Princess Leia, who had also recently returned to Coruscant after a diplomatic mission to the Hapes star system. In a public reception, Leia is stunned when she receives a marriage proposal from Prince Isolder, the son of the Hapan Queen. Han, realizing that he doesn't really have anything to offer Leia, enters a high-stakes sabacc game where he wins the deed to the planet Dathomir. Hoping to win back Leia's affection, Han offers her the planet as a gift, and when that doesn't work, he kidnaps her to take her to his planet with the plan that she will remember that she loves him. When Isolder discovers where they went, he leaves for Dathomir himself, taking with him Luke Skywalker, who has his own reasons for wanting to go to that planet.

Upon arriving at Dathomir, both parties discover something they didn't know. The planet is interdicted because it is home to a civilization of Force witches, most of whom use the dark side for their spells. It also happens to be the final resting place of the Chu'unthor, a traveling Jedi academy that happens to contain the Jedi records that Luke has been searching for so he can start rebuilding the Jedi Order.

I thought it was rather interesting to see two different matriarchal societies displayed here, one high tech and one low tech. It was intriguing to see that even though both societies were quite different, there were some major fundamental similarities in the attitudes of the citizens of these societies.
