After the death of the Emperor and Carnor Jax, a ruling council from the different remaining areas of the Empire is gathered together to determine the future leadership of the Emperor. When someone begins murdering council members, blame naturally falls to Kir Kanos, who has sworn vengeance on everyone whe was involved in the death of the Emperor. But not all is as it seems, because Kir Kanos happens to be in the employ of a Hutt, and we have a very special appearance by Nom Anor.

Like many sequels, this doesn't seem quite as good as the first, but they are two very different stories and that makes comparison difficult. Political intrigue plays a major part in this, and Kanos' part doesn't take center stage anymore. I still enjoyed this story, even if not as much as the first Crimson Empire.
