Emperor Palpatine is using his new Galaxy Gun to destroy every New Republic stronghold he can find, but he still can't seem to eliminate the leadership. On top of that, his most recent clone body is decaying at an abnormally high rate. Fortunately for him, he's finally found Princess Leia and her youngest child, Anakin. Setting out for Onderon in his new flagship, Eclipse II, he intends to find the princess and take the child by force, and then sending his consciousness to overpower the consciousness of the child, thus ensuring his continued life. He is stopped at the last minute by the old Jedi Brand Empatojayos, who sacrifices his life to trap the Emperor in death. Meanwhile a small infiltration team has sabotaged the hyperdrive of Eclipse II, sending it to destroy the Galaxy Gun.

This story starts off with a bang and doesn't let up until the final explosive conclusion. I loved Dark Empire I, and I felt that in Empire's End the storytelling returned to the high that this series had near the start. Gone was the unnecessary romantic subplot, and the action was almost non-stop from start to finish.
