Fate Of the Jedi: Apocalypse
Cover Artist: Ian Keltie
As the Jedi infiltrate Coruscant under the noses of the Sith, Abeloth, as Rokari Kem, tries to convince Wynn Dorvan to work with her. She presents him with Imperial Lieutenant Lydea Pagorski, who the Empire wants back, and when he convinces her to agree, she uses her powers to take over Pagorski's body, becoming a double of herself that she can send to the Empire. As Ben Skywalker and Vestara Khai sit, waiting to meet with Senator Kameron Suldar, who is actually Sith High Lord Workan, Vestara convinces the guards to let them in. They trick the guards in the room and as Luke Skywalker and a strike team break into the ofice, they kill him quickly, as all over Coruscant Sith in leadership positions begin to die by the hands of the Jedi on the planet. While in a Hapan ship over Ossus, while the Jedi younglings are evacuated, Allana has a vision of the Barabel nest in the deep parts of the Jedi Temple being destroyed and knows that this will happen if she doesn't do something, so she agrees to wait until Leia returns to contact Saba Sebatyne through the Force. Ossus is evacuated with minimal casualties, and Dorvan convinces Abeloth that she needs to bring all the Sith into the Jedi Temple in order to draw the Jedi to her. A short time later, the Jedi muster their forces with the assistance of Admiral Nek Bwua'tu and infitrate from the lower portion, right into a trap. With the battle engaged, they begin their search for what they assume is simply a Sith Grand Lord and the Temple's computer core while Abeloth's Pagorski avatar makes her way to Daala's side and convinces her that a general election is the way to take over the Imperial Remnant. In the Temple, Wynn Dorvan sees a chance to finally be free from Abeloth and steals a blaster from a Sith. He then notices that Abeloth has taken another form as well, the Sith Lady Korelei. He follows the Roki Kem avatar into the computer core, and then when she is distracted he shoots her repeatedly. Thinking he killed her, he is surprised when she manifests in the computer core itself. The Jedi team fights it's way through the Temple, looking for a computer interface from which to lower the Temple defenses, but it quickly becomes apparent that all interfaces have been disabled and they will need to go to the computer core itself to succeed. In their desperation to find Abeloth, the Jedi had sent Raynar Thul with Lowbacca and Tekli to find a Killik nest that knows of her and, after a month of searching, they find the Thuruht. Thuruht seems like a dying nest until they learn that Abeloth is free. With this information they begin to rejuvenate in preparation for what they call the end. In the Jedi Temple, Luke's strike team pulls off a plan to insert Ben Skywalker and Valin and Jysella Horn into the computer core while Luke, Jaina Solo and Corran Horn distract the Sith. Expecting to find the Sith Grand Lord, they are surprised to find Wynn Dorvan babbling in fear, and Jysella is filled with dread when she learns that Abeloth has possessed the computer itself. In the lower levels, Vestara Khai has been running from the Sith until she is backed into a corner. In order to save her own life, she reveals the truth about Allana Solo and is given a grenade to complete the task. She turns around at the airlock to see the Millennium Falcon on the deck with Allana disembarking with Princess Leia and Bazel Warv. Seeing no way to avoid it, she throws the detonator at the Falcon and disappears as a firefight breaks out. With the ship badly damaged, Leia, Allana and Bazel fight their way to the tunnel while Han provides covering fire from the belly turret. Setting it to automatic, he makes his escape as well and meets Leia and Allana at the tunnel while Bazel sacrifices himself so they can escape. In the Imperial Remnant, Jag Fel has agreed to an election and in the meantime, Tahiri Veila will attempt to find and destroy the Pagorski avatar of Abeloth. With the Thuruht, Raynar and his friends are taken through a hall of murals that depict the history of creatures that Thuruht calls the Ones. The Ones are three beings that represent the light side and dark side of the Force, as well as the balance between them, known as the the Father, the Son and the Daughter. Long ago, another being known as the Servant joined them and created a home of love, but she eventually grew old while they didn't. In order to remain with them, she drank from the Font of Power and swam in the Pool of Knowledge and became Abeloth, the Bringer of Chaos. Eventually, the Son and Daughter worked together to turn the Killiks into a work force that created the prison for Abeloth, and returned sanity to the universe. Periodically through the centuries, Abeloth would escape, and the Son and Daughter would always come together after Thuruht gained the Force again and reimprison her. With this latest escape, it is time for them to gain the Force again and Raynar Thul, thinking of himself as ThurThul, will be the joiner to give it to them. Tahiri follows Boba Fett to Hagamoor 3 where it turns out Abeloth has set up base. She rescues Fett from Abeloth's plants and the two of them agree to work together to achieve their separate goals. They manage to find the scientists that he is looking for in the room next to Abeloth. Together they manage to destroy Abeloth's Pagorski avatar and escape with some information Fett may need, before Jag's forces wipe out the base. Back on Coruscant, Luke, Jaina and Corran are trying to bring down a local shield generator to allow Bwua'tu's forces entry into the Temple when they are stopped by Abeloth's Korelei avatar. As they fight her, suddenly she screams out in pain and escapes, allowing them to bring down the shield generator. Elsewhere in the Temple, the Solos set a trap for the Sith chasing them and, with the help of reinforcements sent from Hapes, succeed in wiping out the force following them. They then meet up with Tesar and warn the Barabel Jedi of Allana's vision of the Barabel nest destroyed by Sith. Election day in Imperial space arrives, and news of the destruction on Hagamoor 3 surfaces. Jag uses this to discredit Admiral Daala and withdraw from the election, since he never wanted to be Head of State in the first place, leaving Admiral Vitor Reige to assume the position. Ben awakens in Ship as Vestara is brought before Abeloth. They are brought together where she is able to sneakily let him know everything that has happened since he was taken. They attempt to escape but are stopped easily by the Sith. While in bacta, Jaina has a vision of Ben and Vestara dueling at the Font Of Power and realizes that the outcome rests on where the Balance comes down between them. She awakens and, on her way to meet with the other Masters, is brought up to date on what Tahiri did on Hagamoor 3 which gives her some ideas. As the Jedi war council meets, the knowledge that everyone has gathered is brought together and they finally have an idea of what Abeloth wants. Luke explains a story he was told by Yoda where three beings calling themselves the Ones were encountered by Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi and that they had killed each other. They realize that Abeloth wants to recreate the family she had for a while, with herself in the Father's place and Ben and Vestara in the places of the Son and Daughter. Just then, a volcano begins to form quickly at the Galactic Justice Center, and as the buiding collapses Luke and Jaina watch Ship leave, carrying Abeloth, Ben and Vestara, bound for the Maw. While Luke and Jaina follow, Saba and Tahiri infiltrate the Temple to confront the local avatar of Abeloth. They fight their way to the computer core while Luke and Jaina arrive at the Maw and Luke enters the mindwalkers world. As he prepares to confront Abeloth, he encounters a mysterious tattooed Sith and together they advance as a battle breaks out on three fronts. Saba and Tahiri infiltrating the core, Luke and the Sith attacking in the dream world, and Ben and Vestara in the physical. Eventually, Saba kills the Coruscant avatar, which weakens the spirit one enough that that Luke and the Sith can defeat her, but not before she causes serious damage to them. Ben and Vestara defeat the last physical avater on her own planet as Jaina arrives and takes Ben to see his father. With Ben and Vestara separated, she explains about Vestara and Allana, opening Ben's eyes. They move to capture her, but she is rescued by Ship who informs her that she is now a Sith Lord and that there are other Sith, not of the Tribe, that need her. When Luke finally awakens, he reflects on how, ever since his father refused to replace the Father on Mortis the galaxy had been slipping farther towards chaos, and it is the Jedi's job to restore the balance. In meeting with the Jedi Masters, they come to the conclusion that Abeloth is not dead, merely defeated for now, and they need to find the Mortis location in order to permanently stop her. To the relief of Wynn Dorvan, they decide to truly leave Coruscant, in order to provide more targets for future Sith attacks, to divide their attention. Three months later, the Millennium Falcon is repaired with a replica cockpit and Allana is finally publicly revealed is being the Hapan heir on the same day that Jaina Solo marries Jagged Fel and begins looking at a hopeful future.
