Representatives of the Jedi are meeting with the Galactic Alliance leadership when they are suddenly attacked by an Imperial task force from Coruscant. As they prepare their retreat, Gar Stazi is shot by a Mon Calamari named Tealert and taken to sick bay, leaving Jhoram Bey in command. They make a successful retreat, but as they return from hyperspace and begin to assess their situation, the Imperial task force arrives again, forcing them to run again. On Mon Calamari, Imperial Knight Sigel Dare and Jedi Master Asaak Dan arrive to convince Treis Sinde to return to Bastion. When his refusal threatens to result in the death of one of them, Master Dan steps in and offers to stay with the Mon Calamari while Sinde returns with Dare, and the offer is accepted. Back with the Alliance fleet, Gar Stazi awakens long enough to inform Bey that the Imperials are tracking them by their communications arrays, and using that information Bey quickly sets up a trap that defeats the Imperial task force following them. A week later Stazi confronts Tealert and learns that they were betrayed because the Imperials were holding Tealert. Stazi promises that Alliance agents on Mon Calamari will do what they can to rescue Tealert's family, but Tealert himself will be tried and executed for the loss of lives his betrayal cost.
