Near the end of the first year of the war, the Galactic Alliance had hired Mandalorians to defend Botajef until they could arrive. Before they could though, Hondo Karr caught Yaga Auchs betraying them and was left behind for dead. His trail to revenge led through the ranks of Joker Squadron and eventually to Rogue Squadron. After the Empire's decision to exterminate the Mon Calamari, many of them took shelter on Da Soocha, and the Alliance devised a plan to take them to safety. A water tanker that had been commandeered by Alliance troops would collect the refugees, and when the fleet of tankers left the system, Rogue Squadron would arrive and attack the bounty hunters following the wrong tanker, confusing the trail. Anj Dahl and Hondo Karr went to the system to make the final arrangements, but before they could escape cleanly they were attacked by a Mandalorian, Tes Vevec, Hondo's ex-wife. Hondo held her off while Anj signalled to Rogue Squadron to begin the attack. The plan was carried out without a hitch, but when Anj returned to help Hondo, she found that they had discussed their situation and Tes was going to assist Hondo in carrying out his revenge, so it was time for Hondo to return to his Mandalorian armor.
