Fate Of the Jedi: Abyss

Fate Of the Jedi: Abyss
Cover Artist: Ian Keltie
In the lower levels of the Jedi temple, Cilghal is trying to learn the cause of the ailment that the young Jedi are experiencing. Raynar Thul is also living in the lower depths of the temple, but at the urging of Han and Leia Solo he decides that it is time he rejoined the rest of the Jedi. At the Maw, Luke and Ben Skywalker make their way through the black holes until they come upon a facility that is a miniature mirror image of the now-destroyed Centerpoint Station, surrounded by derelict ships of all sorts and ages. Landing on the station Luke and Ben explore, eventually finding a chamber with a purple light surrounded by many bodies. Making their way to the light, they discover that some of the bodies aren't dead as they are met by a group of cadaverous looking people who call themselves Mind Walkers. Sending Ben back to repair their ship, Luke accepts when they offer to show him what Jacen learned from them. On Coruscant, two more Jedi fall prey to the insanity. They are captured before anyone can be hurt but Galactic Alliance Security shows up anyways and demands that they be handed over. When they are refused, Chief of State Daala decides to go ahead with the trial of Tahiri Veila and hires a team of Mandalorians to watch the Jedi. At the Maw, a team of Sith led by Lady Rhea and Vestara Khai approach a planet that was once hidden by black holes in their hunt for the Sith meditation sphere called Ship. Landing on the planet, they begin to track down Ship through the carnivorous plants that sometimes manage to kill the Sith, and eventually come across a cave where a creature named Abeloth lives. Abeloth appears to be able to control the carnivorous plants to the extent that they don't attack when she is around, but over the next few weeks the majority of the Sith team ends up dead. When Lady Rhea decides that it is time to abandon the mission and return home, Abeloth reveals that Luke Skywalker is nearby in an attempt to entice them to stay. Lady Rhea is firm in her decision though, and is attacked by a plant. Vestara saves her and finds herself able to see through the illusion Abeloth has projected to see the horror that she really is. Eventually helping her master to see the truth, they come up with a plan to escape from Abeloth's clutches and are able to use the Sith meditation sphere to get from the planet to Sinkhole Station where the Skywalkers are. Luke has been using the Mind Walkers technique of meditation to be separate from his body for several weeks now, and Ben has realized that the Mind Walkers are trying hard to strand the Skywalkers on the station. Forcing one of his guides to teach him the process so that he can rescue his father, he meditates as well. Finding Luke, the two of them encounter manifestations of Anakin Solo, Mare Jade Skywalker and Jacen Solo. Getting some of the answers they need, they retreat to their bodies and begin to make their way back to their ship. Along the way, they encounter the Sith strike team and manage to kill most of them while Luke leaves a blood trail on Vestara, the only Sith to survive. They then retreat from the station to recover a bit before attempting to track Vestara. On Coruscant, Jaina Solo leads a small team of Jedi into the Galactic Alliance Security detention cell to find the Valin and Jysella Horn being displayed like artwork or trophies rather than being treated like prisoners or patients and are able to get reporters in with them to see. At the same time, the rest of the sick Jedi are being packed up to be moved off Coruscant to a safe location out of reach of the Galactic Alliance. The Jedi fight off the Mandalorian team and Han provides another distraction while Leia removes the Jedi elsewhere. They meet up and take them to Shedu Maad where the sick Jedi will hopefully be safe.
