The Empire, aided by a new Sith Order, has overthrown the Galactic Alliance and now seeks to exterminate the last of the Jedi on Ossus. Two Jedi Masters, Kol Skywalker and Wolf Sazen, have instructed their Padawans to evacuate the Younglings while they hold back the Empire so that there can be a future for the Jedi Order, but one of the Padawans wants to remain behind and help. Wolf is taken down early in the battle, and Cade Skywalker, the rebellious Padawan, is able to take his Master to safety aboard the shuttle as it leaves. Wolf is dying and Cade doesn't want to see that happen, so he uses the Force in his anger to heal his Master, and then leaves in his fighter to hold off the Imperial fighters so that the rest can escape. Meanwhile, the head of the Sith Order, Darth Krayt, turns on his Imperial allies and assumes control of the Empire while the true Emperor goes into hiding. This sets the stage for the events to be revealed later in the series.
