Darth Maul returns from a mission and reports to his master. He was sent to kill an old Jedi Master who had given up the lightsaber, and he was soundly defeated in seconds by a simple stick. He then is inspired to build a double-bladed lightsaber, returns to the old Jedi, and defeats him.

This story could very well have fit into the continuity if the creation of a double-bladed lightsaber wasn't contradicted by "Star Wars: Journal - Episode I: Darth Maul"
