The Empire is sending probe droids to all corners of the galaxy, looking for the hidden Rebel base. One of those droids lands on Dagobah, where Yoda is living. Yoda destroys the probe, but not before it can send a message back to the fleet. The officers on duty when the message comes think it isn't anything important so decide to cover it up so they will look good on their upcoming review.
