You know the story. Everybody knows the story. But what if the story changed - even just a little? What would happen to the characters? What would happen to the Star Wars galaxy?
With these fateful words, we are given a fascinating glimpse into the what-if's of the Star Wars universe. The premise for the "Infinities" line is: change one thing, just one minor thing, and see where the story now takes us. In Return Of the Jedi that one minor change came during the negotiations between Jabba the Hutt and Princess Leia dressed as Boushh. Jabba hit C-3PO more forcefully than he should have, which resulted in Leia breaking cover and accidentally releasing her thermal detonator. During the ensuing firefight, Boba Fett manages to escape with Han Solo, but not before a stray shot damages the control panel of the carbonite unit, turning Han's blindness from temporary to permanent.
I think this was my favorite "Infinities" story. The anguish of Han's friends as they attempt to track him down again, and the Emperor escaping from the Death Star shortly before it's destruction were all interesting story points to see, but the best thing about this book was the closing image of Darth Vader, in all white armor, offering to help his children track down the Emperor.
